Thinking about getting Botox for the first time can be both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. You’ve probably seen incredible before-and-after results online but what actually happens during a Botox appointment?
At The Face Institute in Edmonton, we focus on making your first experience smooth, informative, and completely personalized. Here’s what you can expect from start to finish.
Step 1: Your Personalized Consultation
Every Botox appointment begins with a thorough consultation. One of our Expert Nurse Injectors and Nurse Practitioners will take time to understand your concerns, whether it’s smoothing forehead lines, lifting the brows, softening frown lines, or even slimming the face.
We’ll review your medical history, facial anatomy, and movement patterns, then discuss realistic results, dosage, and cost. Transparency is key, so we take the time to explain exactly what we’re doing and why. Our goal is to help you feel confident and educated before your treatment begins.
Step 2: The Treatment Process
Once your treatment plan is finalized, we’ll gently cleanse your skin and map the injection points. Using a fine, precise micro-needle, small amounts of neuromodulators, like Botox, Nuceiva, Xeomin or Dysport, are precisely injected into targeted muscles that cause wrinkles.
The procedure takes about 10–15 minutes and is typically described as a series of quick pinches, no numbing required for most clients. You can expect little to no discomfort and zero downtime and minimal to zero downtime.
Step 3: Right After Your Appointment
Immediately after treatment, you might notice slight redness or tiny bumps at the injection sites, both fade within minutes. You can go back to your daily routine right away, though we recommend:
- Avoiding exercise or lying flat for 4–6 hours
- Skipping facials, saunas, or hot showers for the rest of the day
- Not rubbing or massaging the treated area
You’ll start noticing results in 3–5 days, with full smoothing visible by about two weeks.
Step 4: Your Follow-Up and Maintenance
We’ll schedule a follow-up appointment around the two-week mark to assess results and fine-tune if necessary.
For most people, Botox lasts about 3–4 months before natural muscle movement gradually returns. Consistent maintenance can help results last longer and may train your muscles to remain more relaxed over time.
