A combination laser/IPL therapy, this procedure is designed to correct the effects of aging due to sun exposure. The additive effects from combining a scanned erbium laser (Micro Laser Peel) and intense pulsed light (IPL) for overall rejuvenation is quite impressive.
This procedure requires numbing of the skin for about an hour prior. The skin is first treated with intense pulse light to address pigment issues. Then, the surface of the skin is ablated, removing layers of damaged cells. A healing ointment is then applied and reapplied for the next few days until the skin heals. Patients must stay out of the sun after this treatment to prevent reversal of pigment clearing. Usually 1 to 3 treatments are necessary to correct damage. The skin typically peels for 3 to 4 days with complete healing in about 5 to 7 days. Benefits from this treatment will continue to improve up to 6 months post treatment.
